Plant more than 3,600 mangroves; Launch solar power system in Maldives
SINGAPORE – Park Hotel Group, a leading hospitality company in Asia Pacific, today announced key updates on positively impacting the Planet through its action taken to achieve UN Sustainable Development Goals for a better and more sustainable future.
Through the Room For Trees initiative launched earlier this year where the Group will plant a tree for every booking made on its website (www.parkhotelgroup.com), 3,663 mangroves will be planted in Biak Island, Indonesia. Park Hotel Group hopes to restore the mangrove forests and positively impact the life on land.
Indonesia has one of the most extensive mangroves in the world but over the last three decades, over 40% of mangrove forests were destroyed in the country, affecting lives and livelihoods that depended on it[1]. Research has shown that mangroves are vital for the ecosystem and effective in the battle against climate change as they can absorb up to four times the carbon amount as compared to a rainforest[2].
The Group’s luxury resort Grand Park Kodhipparu, Maldives is also launching its solar power system today. The photovoltaic panels in the resort will produce an estimated 478,080 kilowatt-hour (kWh) of energy per annum, saving up to 150,000 litres of diesel fuel each year which will reduce emission of large amount of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. One of its flagship hotels Grand Park City Hall in Singapore similarly has solar panels installed on its rooftop which produce 66,300 kWh per annum.
Park Hotel Group’s commitment towards protecting the Planet and creating value to the People while operating Profitably is reflected across its portfolio of hotels and resort, including coral planting and opening of glass bottle facility in Grand Park Kodhipparu, Maldives.
